Perman Wine Selections – Events Calendar Update

UPDATE – ALL TASTINGS THROUGH YEAR END HAVE SOLD OUT – GET ON THE WAIT LIST IF A PARTICULAR TASTING INTERESTS YOU!

Hello,

It’s Fall, and that means it is time for lots of Perman Wine tastings!

Today I wanted to send an updated list to let you know what has sold out and at what remains.

There are even three spots left for tomorrow nights Alsace tasting!

I am also happy to announce a new very exciting collaboration with X-Marx. We are proud to announce our first ever Piedmont wine dinner. The great Barolo producer, Pietro Ratti will be in attendance to present his wines with specially prepared courses. This dinner will sell out very quickly, so get your spot today

If an event listed below is sold out, still email me to get on the wait list. Cancellations do happen, so there is a chance you may get in.

Speaking of those cancellations – putting together events takes quite a bit of time and work. Because my events are often small, each seat and every seat is important to its success. This year I’ve had to be a little tougher on last–minute event cancellations. A strict 48–hour cancellation policy is in effect for my tastings. If I can’t fill your spots with people on the waiting list, I have to charge you. I hope this isn’t a deterrent to signing up; it’s just a measure I have to put in place.

I am very excited about the line-up of tastings this year – this promises to be a lot of fun!

Best wishes,
Craig

Barolo Wine Dinner with Winemaker Pietro Ratti and X-Marx
Tuesday, November 16th
Dinner begins at 7:00 pm
$110 per person, excluding gratuity, including tax
Location to be disclosed the day before the event to attendees
24 spots available – To reserve your spot click here or go to http://rattibarolo.eventbrite.com

Pietro Ratti, owner and winemaker of one of the Barolo regions most famed wineries, Renato Ratti, is flying to Chicago to co-host a specially prepared Piedmont-style dinner with X-Marx and Perman Wine Selections.

A specially designed five-course menu will be prepared, and with each course, a Ratti wine will be paired. Pietro will preside over the dinner and talk about each wine as it is poured. This will surely be an educational, fun, and delicious way to introduce or re-introduce you to the great wines and food of Piedmont.

This is one of the most exciting events that we have done yet – it is a great honor to have someone of Pietro’s magnitude at this dinner.

A little more information about the winery:

Renato Ratti has become an important point of reference for Langhe wines and Italian wines in general. Renato was an iconic figure in the region having spent much of his life researching and publishing books on the vineyards of the Langhe. Especially important was his Carta del Barolo (Map of Barolo) that was the first of its kind map that traced the location of the greatest Langhe vineyards. Renato passed away in 1988, and his son Pietro is the head of the family company today. He has carried on the work of his father, and is making some of the finest wines in Piedmont today.

Hope you can make it!

Alsace: Making sense of the chaos
Thursday, October 7th
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$50 per person
3 spots available – to RSVP contact Craig via e-mail or phone

The Alsace region of France is one of the greatest growing regions in the world. Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, and Sylvaner play the largest roles in the wine landscape. The white wines produced in Alsace also happen to be some of the most versatile food pairing wines known to man.

Yet waning interest in these wines over the last several years has me on a mission to get people to think Alsace! In order to do so, this tasting intends to examine the chaotic landscape that is the Alsatian wine world. We will taste eight wines, and touch on the subjects of house style, vineyard sites, vineyard practices and more. If you are not already an Alsace convert, you will be after this tasting!

Southwest France: kicking it old school with the soulful wines of the region
Friday, October 29th
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$45 per person
Sold Out – Get on the wait list today

The slickness of the wine trade still hasn’t caught up to those growing grapes and making wine in Southwest France. Sure the technology has improved, the yields have been reduced, and better wines are being made here than in years past – but the best producers of regions like Madiran, Cahors, Gaillac and Irouleguy are still making wine with so much soul!

For those of you who want to discover the unsung wine heroes of France, this will be the tasting to go to. Grapes like Tannat, Malbec, Duras, Gros Manseng, and more will be explored. Expect a good mix of white and red wine, and expect to find some new favorite wines.

=====

Catalan Power!
Wednesday, November 3rd
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$55 per person
Sold Out – Get on the wait list today!

November will mark a series of tastings that will focus on some of my wine travels of this past summer. One stop along my journey was Catalunya, the department of Spain that includes Barcelona and wine regions such as Penedès, Empordà, Costers del Segre, Montsant, and Priorat.

There is a dizzying array of varietals, terroir and producers in this vast area, and this tasting will give an overview of some of the amazing wines and producers that will have you shouting “Catalan Power” by the end.

Focus on Barolo
Thursday, November 18th
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$65 per person
Sold Out – Get on the wait list today

The Barolo region and its namesake wine is an iconic name in Italian wine lore. My week spent in June at some of the greatest producers of the region was an incredible learning experience. Now I intend to share some of that information with you.

If you think Burgundy is complex, Barolo is every bit as terroir driven. We will talk a little bit about the intricacies of the region, and not only explore its king varietal Nebbiolo, which makes up Barolo, but also taste some of the prolific examples of Dolcetto and Barbera that are available. This will be a very special tasting!

=====

The Languedoc – A treasure trove of great wines for those that love Rhône varietals!
Wednesday, December 1st
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$45 per person
Sold Out – Get on the wait list today!

My week exploring the Languedoc in the South of France was an amazing learning experience. I drove for hundreds of miles all so that I could visit some of the top producers of their respective appellations. It was well worth it!

This tasting will explore the great red wines of various appellations such as Pic St. Loup, Terrasses du Larzac, Faugères, Minervois, Corbières, and the catch all appellation called Coteaux du Languedoc. This won’t be for the faint of heart, as we will taste some high-octane wines!

Champagne Party of the Year – Part 1 & Part 2
Thursday, December 9th and Friday, December 10th
7:15 – 9:15 pm
$95 per person
Sold Out on Thursday, December 9th
Sold Out on Friday, December 10th
To RSVP or get on the wait list contact Craig via e-mail or phone – a strict 48-hour cancellation policy will be enforced

My most popular tastings of the year! Treat yourself during the holiday season to the best Champagne tastings in Chicago.

The best sparkling wine in the world comes from the Champagne region of France. Each year I go to great lengths to put together an outstanding line-up of Champagne from various producers and terroirs within the region. Champagne is a very exciting place right now, as the wine culture has moved beyond just the blended wines of négociants, in addition encompassing the many growers who in recent years have stopped selling their grapes and instead started to produce their own. These so called grower Champagne houses, or “farmer fizz,” have proven themselves to produce as exciting Champagne as the more widely known négociant houses. Both will be represented at this year’s Champagne tastings, although the nod will be to the little guys.

Due to the popularity of this tasting, for the second year in a row I have expanded this to two nights. I will offer a completely different line-up of Champagne each night, so if you are a glutton for the fizzy stuff, sign up for both nights. Don’t miss the party, I mean tasting of the year!

Perman Wine Selections Events Calendar

Hello,

After a brief hiatus, I am excited to announce today my full line-up of events for the rest of 2010!

This list includes a very special wine and food collaboration with X-Marx that may just be our best event yet. So come spend a Sunday afternoon in the woods with us, enjoying great food and wine pairings.

Aside from the X-Marx event, my tastings happen here in my beautiful event space at the store. Tastings at the store are a great way to learn about wine, and offer you the advantage of tasting before buying. There are only 14 seats at the table in the event space, and you must sign up ahead of time to attend a tasting.

Putting together events takes quite a bit of time and work. Because my events are often small, each seat and every seat is important to its success. This year I’ve had to be a little tougher on last–minute event cancellations. A strict 48–hour cancellation policy is in effect for my tastings. Events Calendar – Wednesday, March 24th

Hello,

The last time I put out an events calendar, you responded in droves. Every event sold out so quickly that I never had to send out a follow–up newsletter.

Today, I am excited to announce my next wave of tastings and dinners.

Putting together events takes quite a bit of time and work. Because my events are often small, each seat and every seat is important to its success. This year I’ve had to be a little tougher on last–minute event cancellations. A strict 48–hour cancellation policy is in effect for my tastings. If I can’t fill your spots with people on the waiting list, I have to charge you. I hope this isn’t a deterrent to signing up; it’s just a measure I have to put in place.

On another note, my June 3 tasting will represent the only tasting of that month. I will be traveling from Sunday June 6 through Monday June 28. The store will be open a limited number of hours while I am gone. I plan on visiting over 40 producers in three different countries on this trip. This is the best way for me to offer even more knowledgeable service, and to keep current on what is going on in the wine world. I am paying for this trip out of my pocket, and could use all of your help to support my business while I am gone.

Thanks again for all that you do for Perman Wine.

Best Wishes,
Craig
