Perman Wine Selections Friday Feature – 6/24/11

Hello and Happy Friday!

It’s the last Friday of the month and time to introduce the brand new “Six for $60-something” wine sampler!

Six wines, hand selected by me, that represent a range of styles – all hovering around the $10 price point. Each wine is available by the bottle or case, but as I often say, for maximum pleasure you should take the whole sampler.

The “Six for $60-something” is highly recommend to those learning about wines, trying to stock their wine rack with affordable and tasty adult beverages, or wanting to bring a gift to someone hosting a party.

So how does this work? To order simply e-mail me back and say “Hey Craig, hook me up.” To join the devoted legions of fans who receive them every month you can just say “and keep ’em coming!” All of the wines are available by the bottle or case, but for total jubilation just do the whole sampler. Some people are challenged by some of the wines that I put in to my sampler. If Cinsault gives you a rash, Ugni Blanc makes you bloated, or any other interesting reason why you can not drink one of the following wines, then I will substitute and try to get the sampler as close to $60 as possible.

A suggestion to those folks trying to learn from this as well as get a buzz – print out a copy of the newsletter to keep with your sampler. That way when you are in the mood for a bottle you have your own mini wine lesson on hand. So what are you waiting for? Order yours today!

The sampler is in stock and ready to be picked up any time in the coming month!

Thanks again for all your support!

Have a great weekend,
Craig

2007 DOMAINE DU GRAND CRÈS CORBIÈRES “CUVÉE CLASSIQUE”

Domaine du Grand Crès is one of the most exciting producers in the Corbières region today. I visited this property a couple summers ago and was really impressed with the exceptional balance on the wines.

“Cuvée Classique” is a blend of 50%Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Cinsault. To find out all about this great producer click here.

Pair this wine with grilled meats.

2010 AVINYÓ “VI D’AGULLA”

It doesn’t get any more “summer-y” than this exciting white wine right here!

Avinyó is one of the top Cava producers of Spain and Vi d’Agulla is a wine they do just for fun! And fun it is, 100% Petit Grain Muscat that undergoes a secondary fermentation in tank. Think fresh, fruit, bubbly and absolutely delicious!

Serve this as an aperitif, or pair it with spicy seafood based Thai dishes. This will become your new favorite summertime drink!

$12.00 BTL. / $144.00 CASE

2010 DOMAINE DE RIEUX CÔTES DE GASCOGNE BLANC

When I’m reaching for an inexpensive crisp white wine to serve as an aperitif in the summer, I’m always turning to the white wines from the Côtes de Gascogne appellation of France.

The Grassa family is one of the most important viticultural families in the region. They produce both wine and Armagnac from their various properties. Today’s feature is on a brand new wine to the Chicago market, and a wine that is Craig tested and approved.

You should read more here about the wine and the Grassa family. A great wine to take to the beach or sit by the pool with a glass in hand!

$9.00 BTL. / $108.00 CASE

2010 LUBERRI “ORLEGI” RIOJA

A 2010 Rioja already? That’s right – this is THE wine that all the “cool kids” are drinking in Spain right now. Carbonic maceration is an important style of vinification that we frequently ignore. Yet in summer time, a wine like this is the perfect example of a wine to put a slight chill on and have with ribs, burgers, or even on its own.

Orlegi is composed of 100% Tempranillo and to find out more about it and the winery clickhere.

A Rioja experience that will be unique and of course delicious!

$12.00 BTL. / $144.00 CASE

2010 CAVE DE SAUMUR “LES PLANTAGENÊTS” SAUMUR BLANC

Dry Chenin Blanc is one of the best summertime drinks. There are a few wine regions in the world that produce great dry Chenin Blanc, and towards the top of that list is the Loire Valley. This example comes from the local Cave of the Saumur appellation.

I enjoy this wine for its bright apple/pear notes and delicate mineral nuances. It too can be enjoyed as an aperitif, but it also is a good bottle to bring to your local BYOB sushi restaurant.

$9.50 BTL. / $114.00 CASE

N.V. CASAL GARCIA VINHO VERDE ROSÉ

It’s back – one of the most popular wines to ever have been featured on a Six for $60-something sampler – the Casal Garcia Vinho Verde Rosé! Many of you are familiar with that light, spritzy Portuguese white wine called Vinho Verde. Now just imagine it in pink form!

Nothing serious about this wine, just an easily gluggable wine that seemingly goes with almost every kind of food imaginable. Here is all the information you could every want to know on it.

Bomb’s away!

$8.00 BTL. / $96.00 CASE
