Chablis. What can we say, except this is Chardonnay’s most crisp, strident and crunchy expression. Bone chillingly cold, the soils here are eroded and teeming with the fossils of ammonites, and other vestiges of long dead marine life.
The cru of Montée de Tonnerre is well understood to often mimic quality levels of the grand cru vineyards that border it, but often at a fraction of the price. This vineyard also sports a fair amount of bluish clay, which imparts richness and depth to its wines.
Jean-Paul & Benôit Droin’s version never disappoints.
2011 Droin Chablis Montéee de Tonnerre 1er Cru- $36.99/BTL.
