Cyril Bourgne and his wife Nadia run the estate. As a college student, Cyril helped with the grape harvest and vinification at Domaine du Nouveau Monde (his uncle’s estate), and it was there that he began to develop a taste for the job. After he graduated with a degree in Oenology and Vine Studies, he spent years as technical manager of Château Fieuzal in Pessac-Léognan, where blending Bordeaux varieties was the norm. He returned to his native roots in Languedoc and purchased the Domaine La Madura estate with his wife in 1998.
The estate has vineyards planted with local Rhône varieties, but also Sauvignon Blanc, which is not native to the region. Cyril worked with the grape in Bordeaux for many years and believed his plots were perfect for Sauvignon Blanc vines. They thrived so much, he decided to make two white wines from these grapes (with the addition of a bit of Piquepoul). Their red wines, which are blends of the Rhône varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, are without a doubt world class.
Both their red and white wines are among the best in their respective category. Domaine La Madura is just an incredible producer that we continue to be honored to work with.
