Agrapart Champagne "Venus" Blanc de Blancs '09

Champagne Agrapart

Agrapart Champagne "Venus" Blanc de Blancs '09

100% Chardonnay Planted in 1959, La Fosse is a mid-hill plot that is worked only by man and horse. In 2000, the Agraparts began working this 0.3-hectare parcel in Avize by horse instead of tractor. Plowing by horse better aerates the soil. Their late Boulonnais horse Vénus is this wine’s namesake. Like the Avizoise, Vénus is a terroir-specific wine, but in addition to the difference in the method of plowing, another difference is that this section of La Fosse lies largely on the chalky portion of the slope, contrasting the clay soils of the Avizoise vineyards. The wine shows stunning depth and richness combined with exceptional freshness and minerality. Grapes are manually harvested and pressed with a Coquard press. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeast. Some of the wine sees demi-muids. Agrapart Vénus completes malolactic fermentation. It is bottled without fining or filtration under cork rather than capsule for the second fermentation. Vénus ages on the lees between 72 and 84 months. Riddling is manual. Wine is disgorged 60 days prior to release. The cuvée is not dosed.
