Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Frauenweingarten Federspiel 2016

Our tour of Austrian Grüner continues on our monthly wine club.

In the mid 1970's Leo Alzinger Sr. inherited a winery that had been selling their grapes to the local co-op. By 1983, Leo was ready to break out on his own. His precision, directness, and clarity has resulted in some of the finest wines comes from the Wachau region in Austria.

Today Leo Jr. is carrying the torch from his father. This single vineyard Grüner is located in the terraced hillsides of Loibenberg. Influenced by the warm Pannonian winds, Grüner takes on a different tone than much of the rest of Austria.

The 2016 "Frauenweingarten" shows that perfect balance of richness and freshness. Notes of melon, citrus peel, saline, and vegetal notes can be found on the nose and palate.

Such a versatile food wine, great with simply prepared grilled fish, pork, and of course summer vegetables.
