Campi di Fonterenza Brunello di Montalcino '12

From the twin sisters, Margarita and Francesca Padovani, Fonterenza is one of the more new and interesting producers to come out of Montalcino in the last 10 years or so. Campi di Fonterenza is a biodynamically farmed estate spread over the commune of of Montalcino. Though the twins grew up in Milan, the farm where they currently reside and make wine has been in the family since the 70's. Viticulture, however, does not run in the Padovani family; in fact, there were no vines whatsoever on the property until Margarita planted the first plots in 1999. This is a fantastic Brunello with gusto and great balance, with an elegant nose on top of it all. 2012 was a vintage with brilliant acidity and a little tension; to be enjoyed with thorough decanting or in the near years to come. Just gorgeous.
