Casa de Saima Branco "Vinhas Velhas" '17

Casa de Saima Branco "Vinhas Velhas" '17

The Bairrada region of Portugal is home to some of the most complex and best value white wine in all of Portugal. Casa de Saima was founded in 1940 with 18 hectares of vineyards located on small plots of land, situated in the best "terroir" of the region. Graça Miranda of Casa de Saima runs this small family winery in Sangalhos in Bairrada and is dedicated to showcasing the potential of these indigenous grapes that can be difficult to grow but produce amazing wines. "Vinhas Velhas" means "Old Vines" in Portuguese, and this is a blend of old-vine Bical and Maria Gomes. It is fermented in tank with indigenous yeast and rest in tank before being bottled. Beautiful aromatics of citrus, mineral, and freshly shaved fennel. Light-bodied and dry with a long, complex finish.
