Casa Julia Carmenère Reserva '15

Maipo Valley

Casa Julia Carmenère Reserva '15

The history of wine in Chile dates back to the mid 16th century when Spanish conquistadores introduced wine-producing vines. Yet it was French influence that gives us the modern Chilean wine industry today. In 1851, Chilean national Silvestre Ochagavía Echazarreta enlisted the help of a French winemaker to import the classic vine varieties that exist today.

Amongst those vine varieties was Carmenère, a grape that although important in the history of Bordeaux, has become Chile’s very own grape variety.

This delicious example of Carmenère comes from one of Chile’s most influential wine personalities of the last three decades, Pablo Morande. As one of the key members of the large scale and influential Concha y Toro group, he helped establish regions like Casablanca Valley, introduce one of Chile’s most acclaimed red wines, Don Melchor, and establish a quality level for the wines of Chile, that has seen its influence grow in the world of wine.

Casa Julia is a Carmenère grown in the Maipo Valley, which lies just South of the city of Santiago. This warm climate provides great growing conditions for Carmenère. This wine comes from old vines, hand harvested, fermented with selected natural yeasts in tank, and aged in American oak for 8 months.

The result is a delicious, medium-bodied wine, chock full of dark berry fruit, green herbs, cocoa and coffee notes. A wine that is perfectly suited to grilled hangar steak or lamb chops.
