Cerbaiona Rosso VDT

Cerbaiona Rosso VDT

Cerbaiona is one of the most famous names in the DOCG of Brunello di Montalcino. Wine critic Antonio Galloni, was once quoted as saying  "If forced to drink only one wine from Montalcino, I might very well choose Diego Molinari's sumptuous Brunello." Molinari had started the estate in 1981 after a long career as a pilot for Alitalia. He purchased a small property in the center of the Montalcino appellation. His focus was to make wines of balance and richness. His tiny quantities of wine always sold out quickly and commanded high prices. In recent years, Cerbaiona was purchased and assumed new leadership. This humble Rosso has a unique story. After the acquisition, they found some Sangiovese from the 2013 vintage in one tank and the 2015 vintage in another. They decided to blend them, and declassify the wine into a "V.D.T."  This fruit would have normally made it into the more expensive Rosso di Montalcino.  This is one of the best values I have tasted from Tuscany for some time. The nose is gorgeous, notes of dark cherry, sage, rosemary, and spice, all lead into a sumptuous, yet structured and layered finish.  This elevated wine deserves to be paired with a great meal. Perhaps a standing rib roast with rosemary potatoes?  That seems appropriate to us. And don't forget our invitation! Fans of Tuscan wines, do not miss this!
