Château Labat Haut-Médoc '14

Château Labat Haut-Médoc '14

A returning favorite from a several wine clubs ago, we are back with the latest 2014 vintage from Château Labat.  The estate is a tiny hamlet, first reported with vineyard-activity in the 18th century.  It is located in the Haut-Médoc, on the left side of the bank in Bordeaux, near St. Julien and various Cru Classés such as Lagrange and Gruaud Larose.  Its direct neighbor is Château Caronne Ste. Gemme - owned by the Nony family.  The Nony family decided to purchase this tiny, 7 hectare settlement in the early 1900s and the 4th generation of the family is currently in command.

The family follows "grand cru" protocol, or as its called in Bordeaux "grand vin," creating a blend of great structure and serious bold fruit, accompanied by oak nuances (about 25% new French oak).  It shares the terroir of its more well-known, pricier, neighbors, but at Cru Bourgeois classification, this is a wine of great value!

With the 2014 vintage, is a 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The fruit is rounded out by oak, giving freshness with an edge.  It is showing fantastically, ready to drink now.
