Courbis Saint Joseph "La Cotte Sud" '16

Rhône Valley

Courbis Saint Joseph "La Cotte Sud" '16

From the southern portion of Saint-Joseph is a Syrah from vines aging around 35 years old, grown in soils that are a mixture of granite and stony soils, having really allowed the vines to struggle and root down deep over time.  This is located on a south-facing, steep slopes. A rarer find from Courbis, with only 5,000 bottles produced annually.  With 50% new oak, mixed with older large oak vats, this wine is exposed to oxygen after 6 months, and then aged furthermore for an additional 18 months.  With larger oak, even newer, there is balance between the fresh fruit character of Saint-Joseph alongside nuanced notes that hint of subtle spice tones and signature Rhône flavors of savory, black olives.
