Domaine Breyton Crozes-Hermitage Blanc '15

Domaine Breyton is one of the relatively newer domaines to come out of the Northern Rhône- and a vigneron to definitely keep your eye on. The estate is owned by Jacques Breyton, who farms 8 hectares of vines throughout the appellation. Jacques Breyton has been bottling his own wine since 2005. Previously he sold his yield to négociants and to the local co-op, but now he vinifies his own wine from five of his hectares of vines. He uses organic and biodynamic practices, and has been certified in both areas since 2000. Here, the terroir is classic full of large galets stones, alluvial stones and granite, all built into sleep, exposed hills. Two thirds of Breyton's vineyards surround his winery in the southern portion of Crozes-Hermitage in the town of Beaumont-Monteux; the other third is from parcels up north in the villages of Serves and Gervans. Breyton's wines are pure elegance, with lower alcohol levels and a soft, finely tuned structure, full of minerality. This is a Crozes-Hermitage Blanc, composed of 65% Marsanne and 35% Roussanne, from older vines around 40 years old. The grapes are de-stemmed and then vinified in stainless steel tank. The wine results in notes of peach, apricot, and lime leaf, and finishes with a hint of bitter almond, and mellow acidity.
