Domaine Dominique Cornin Mâcon-Chaintré "Les Serreudières" '16

Domaine Dominique Cornin Mâcon-Chaintré "Les Serreudières" '16

The Mâconnais, located in Southern Burgundy is one of the most idyllic and quaint wine regions I've visited. In the world of White Burgundy, the Côte de Beaune seemingly gets all the attention. That is slowly changing.

The young and energetic Romain Cornin is one of my absolute favorite producers of the Mâconnais. In 2003 his father Dominique began experimenting with Biodynamic viticulture, something they soon realized gave more life to the vineyards, and thus produced healthier more complex fruit.

This is a family that is dedicated to producing grapes as naturally as possible. In the winery, they employ only natural yeast, use a pneumatic press for gentle handling of the grapes, and do not over oak their wines.

The beautiful results can be seen in this delicious wine from the foothills of Chaintré. This Chardonnay was harvested from several vineyard plots grown in clay-limestone soil with alluvial pebbles. The vines were planted between 1968 and 1985. The wine is fermented and rested in vat for 10 months.

A wonderful crisp and clean example of Chardonnay with big green apple notes, mineral and light, energetic finish. Easy to enjoy this on its own, it can also work with simple fish preparations. A fantastic value.
