Domaine La Madura "Grand Vin" White '17

Domaine La Madura "Grand Vin" White '17

Cyril and Nadia Bourgne of Domaine La Madura are making amazing wines in the St. Chinian appellation in the Languedoc. Their white wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc and Piquepoul. In texture, the wine is certainly reminiscent of white Bordeaux from Graves, but with slightly more body and a Mediterranean ripeness not found in the gravel beds of the left bank. Between Cyril’s extensive time spent in Bordeaux, and the terroir, this absolutely makes sense!

This estate has vineyards planted with local Rhône varieties, but also Sauvignon Blanc, which is not native to the region. Winemaker Cyril Bourgne worked with the grape in Bordeaux for many years and believed his plots were perfect for Sauvignon Blanc vines. They thrived so much, he decided to make two white wines from these grapes

The wine is 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Piquepoul, aged in 225L cask, but with great integration and without oaky distraction. Grand Vin reveals a rich and elegant bouquet, with notes of white flowers, almond, rose... This complexity is also to be found on the palate, supported by good volume and refreshing acidity.
