Domaine les Poëte "Odysée" Reuilly Rouge '15

Guillaume Sorbe is one of Loire's latest stars, working within regions like Reuilly. Located in the central Loire Valley, the area is full slopes and hilly terrain filled with limestone, gravel and sandy soils. As you may remember from a couple wine clubs ago, we featured their Sauvignon Blanc, the region's dominant varietal. We are so impress with Guillaume's talent, that this month we have the pleasure of exploring a lesser known varietal to the region, but not lost on the consumer - Pinot Noir.

Precision, freshness, and delicacy are the pursuit here and Guillaume believes that terroir is the most important thing, often citing his motto “moins mais mieux” – “less but better”. At the domaine, he farms his 25 different small parcels Biodynamically, something that requires a great deal of time and energy. Each of these parcels are harvested by hand and then vinified separately before being blended prior to bottling.

The Pinot Noir is spread among several plots that are located in the villages of Reuilly, Chéry, and Preuilly. All three villages are located on the left bank of the Cher River. In addition to the limestone and stony-rich soils, there is some clay found in these parcels as well.

Guillaume included 30% of the whole clusters during fermentation. After fermentation in tank, 50% was aged in wood, 50% in stainless steel. For the wood, Guillaume used neutral 500-liter French barrels along with one new 500 liter barrel of Austrian origin. The total % of new oak is less than 10%.

This 2015 vintage of Pinot Noir reminds us that if we are patient, we can be fruitfully rewarded. This wine has gorgeous aromas of fresh red fruits like bing cherry and pomegranate with red floral notes of cherry blossoms. Crunchy red berries are coerced on the palate with refreshing acidity and fine-grained tannins. This wine can easily outpace most Burgundies in its price range.

Enjoy with some of your favorite summertime foods like pasta with pesto sauce, charred, assorted veggies and chicken, or honestly anything you throw on the grill - like a grilled brat with onions! Delish.
