G.B. Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga '17

G.B. Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga '17

G.B. Burlotto was once one of Piedmont's great small producers, from the village of Verduno, which is at the northern point of Barolo in the Langhe.  With having played a big part in the elevation of Barolo in the 1800s, alongside other greats such as Giacomo Conterno, there is history and respect behind this producer.  Since G.B.'s death, his G.B.’s great-great-grandson Fabio Alessandria as gotten the wheels spinning on the winery, once again, with the same philosophy backing him, and now the winery is under the direction of Burlotto’s great-niece, Mariana Burlotto, and her husband, Giuseppe Alessandria.

Nebbiolo is king, but there are plenty of other wonderful varietals hailing from Piedmont, such as Perlaverga, an ancient variety grown by the family since the 1800s.  This bottling showcases a dry, still red with spicy, dark cherry notes alongside bright red-berry flavors. This is a lighter bodied wine that will go well with lighter grilled meats, fish and of course, pasta.
