G.B. Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga '18

G.B. Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga '18

G.B. Burlotto was once one of Piedmont's great small producers. Burlotto was from the village of Verduno, which sits at the northern point of Barolo, in the Langhe.  He played a big part in the elevation of Barolo in the 1800s, alongside other greats such as Giacomo Conterno. The current generation at Burlotto is  G.B.'s great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria, and now his great-niece, Mariana Burlotto and her husband Giuseppe Alessandria

Nebbiolo is king, but there are plenty of other wonderful varietals hailing from Piedmont, such as Pelaverga, an ancient variety grown by the family since the 1800s.  The varietal is called Verduno Pelaverga because it is a specialty of the commune of Verduno.

We love the Pelaverga from Burlotto! This bottling showcases a dry, still red with spicy, dark cherry notes alongside bright red-berry flavors. This is a lighter bodied wine that will go well with lighter grilled meats, fish and of course, pasta.
