Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Dry Rosé '18

New York state wine deserves your attention. Yes that's right, outside of the West Coast, great wine does exist in America!

The Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, located in the Seneca Lake AVA of the Finger Lakes region is one of the most influential and most storied of the region. Hermann started the winery in 1973, and planted his first vineyard to vinifera vines in 1976. He came from a wine family, born in the Mosel Valley of Germany, he learned how to graft vines as a boy, and brought his history and knowledge with him.

Today Wiemer owns 75 acres of vines, nestled along Seneca Lake, which is one of the 7 lakes that make up the Finger Lakes region. The lakes are very important in viticulture, as they bring a moderating influence to what can be a very cold region. In fact if you drive sometimes just a half mile away from the lakes, you are unable to grow these same vines.

While the winery is most noted for its different examples of Riesling, we are excited to include their Dry Rosé in our monthly wine club.

A blend of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc from their vineyards on Seneca Lake, the grapes see 12-18 hours of skin contact before undergoing fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.

The result is a delicious rosé, full of cherry, spice and mineral notes on the nose and palate. This has a silky and surprisingly rich texture, but still feels lightweight. We can't recommend it enough.
