Ladeiras do Xil "Branco Sta. Cruz" '16

Ladeiras do Xil "Branco Sta. Cruz" '16

Galicia is a treasure trove of wine. Some of the world's greatest white wines are being "rediscovered" in the region.

One person that has always been on the forefront of rediscovering the important historical wine regions of Spain is none other than Telmo Rodríguez. Since 2004 he alongside his partner Pablo Eguzkiza have been quietly working in the region of Valdeorras. Their winery is called Ladeiras do Xil, and the vineyards lie near the village of Santa Cruz, near the monastery of Las Ermitas. These are majestic vineyards, clinging to hillsides cut by the Bibei River and thousands of years of geological formation.

In these old vineyards, the grapes are co-planted on terraces that have been loving restored by Telmo, Pablo and their team. While red wines are the main focus of Ladeiras do Xil, two white wines are produced. The "Branco de Santa Cruz" is the top white wine of the winery, with annual production less than 5,000 bottles. It is a blend of Godello, Palomino, Doña Blanca, and Treixadura from vines planted anywhere from 20 to 80+ years ago.

The aromatics of this wine are intoxicating (and so is the wine if you drink the whole bottle), with beautiful aromas of fresh apricot, white flowers, and honey. Texturally rich, those ripe stone fruit notes meld into a deeply mineral personality. A forever finish, we encourage you to drink this with langoustines or lobster poached in butter.
