Luberri Rioja "Orlegi" '17

Luberri isn't a new kid on the block, not to our store and certainly not to the region of Rioja. Winemaker Florentino Martínez Monje established Luberri in 1992, though spent time as the winemaker at Artadi honing his craft.

Florentino learned to be hands-on and pay close attention to every aspect of vinification and applies those principles to his winery today. This holds true to his practices in the vineyards as well. Florentino is a farmer first, and takes extraordinary care of his vines. Each plot is farmed with minimal treatment of the soils and vines, and then separately fermented and vinified.

Florentino likes to keep the yields low in order to produce fruit with just the right amount of concentration and flavor. The "Orlegi" really highlights this fruit by utilizing partial carbonic maceration with whole clusters and temperature controlled fermentation.

This is a young fruit-forward Tempranillo (with 5% Viura) meant for early consumption, and makes for the perfect bottle to bring to any gathering as it compliments a myriad of foods.

Bursting with bright cherry and raspberry aromas, it also has hints of white pepper and allspice on the nose. Ample acidity balances the juicy red fruit flavors on the palate, making this a dangerously drinkable Rioja.
