Lucignano Chianti '19

Lucignano Chianti '19

Simply put, this is your new everyday go-to Sangiovese for pasta night! The Guicciardini family has owned the Lucignano villa and winery since 1567. While the family land spans 150 hectares across the region, the vineyards are concentrated within 32 hectares in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini appellation just outside of Florence. Historically the wines were kept locally for consumption out of carafes on the patios of the restaurants of the city since the times of the Renaissance.

Lucignano is the name of the small village nearby, and the vineyards that produce this wine lie just on the northern edge of the Chianti Classico zone. Compared to Chianti Classico, the wines from this region tend to have a zingy spiciness and be a touch more moderate in acidity.

This is an incredible value, mid-weight with a juicy and plump quality to the fruit. Saturating black cherry and densely aromatic violet linger on the palate making a perfect accompaniment to stewed red sauce. Rigatoni with plum tomatoes, Italian sausage and lots of mozzarella would do or go see Rob Levitt at Publican Quality Meats for a thick cut Slagel Pork Chop and a slice of country Bread you can finish with his “Pork Butter” made of crispy pork drippings and mascarpone.
