Massolino Barolo '11

Massolino Barolo '11

The Massolino family has a long history in winemaking, dating back to 1896 when Giovanni Massolino founded the estate in Serralunga d’Alba. The village of Serralunga d’Alba is well known as a commune with many incredible vineyards and Massolino is a Serralunga specialist. Now with Franco and Roberto Massolino at the helm as the new generation, they continue to produce wines that beautifully express the terroir of Serralunga. The "entry level" Barolo from Massolino is as complex and delicious than most other producers more expensive bottlings. All the fruit for this Barolo comes from vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba. The wine is fermented on its skin for 15 days, and spends 30 months in large, old oak barrels. The 2011 is drinking incredibly well right now, with those classic cherry skin, anise, and spice aromas and flavors. Truly complex Barolo!
