Mastroberardino "Neroametà" Campania Bianco '16

Mastroberardino "Neroametà" Campania Bianco '16

While extended skin-contact white wines are all the rage, we also feel that red grapes can make for pretty interesting and complex white wines.

Seemingly an Italian speciality, we’ve feature Pinot Nero Bianco in the store before, but this wine, a first. Neroametà hails from Campania, the famed winery Mastroberardino, which produces some of the longest aging and most complex reds of Italy from the grape Aglianico.

“Neroametà” is a white wine made from Aglianco grown in the Mirabella Eclano estate. The volcanic soil, with its sandy loam and clay intertwined sits at between 350 and 450 meters above sea level.

Mastroberardino vinifies the Aglianico as a white wine, with no skin contact, fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 10 months aging on its fine lees.

The result is a truly unique and aromatic white wine. White flowers and citrus peel on the nose, the wine has weight, but still remains fresh. We suggest pairing it with a whole grilled sea bream, alongside grilled vegetables.

Just when you thought you’ve tried it all…
