Alentejo
Miguel Louro Wines is the exciting project of Miguel Louro Jr. If you recognize the Louro name, that is because Miguel's father is the well-recognized owner/winemaker of the iconic Alentejo estate called Quinta do Mouro. Miguel Sr. has not let his children rest of his laurels, instead challenging them to go out and blaze their own path. Miguel Jr. has certainly earned his stripes, as the current enologist for S.A. Prum in the Mosel Valley, and returning to his roots with the Miguel Louro Wines from Alentejo. Miguel makes three white wines, this one called "Primeiro Nome" or "first name," is actually the second white in the line-up. It is a blend of 40% Arinto, 30% Gouveio, and 30% Verdelho, all planted to slate soil. Harvest by hand, it is macerated for 24 hours before fermentation in French oak, and aging 8 months on its fine lees. Salty and mineral on the nose, this shows plenty of apple, fresh fig and apricot notes on the palate. It has a wonderful silky texture and finishes with plenty of freshness. A great wine to pair with seafood, so grab a bottle before you head out to sushi.
