Monte delle Vigne "Selezione" Lambrusco '19

Monte delle Vigne "Selezione" Lambrusco '19

2020 is the summer of Lambrusco!

What is often misunderstood as a sweet sparkling wine, is finally finding its way into the every day drinking of people around the United States.

Lambrusco is the name of a variety that comes from Emilia-Romagna. Just like Sangiovese, there are different varieties of the grape. There are seven major varieties, although we are told that there are in fact over 60 different types.

Different parts of Emilia-Romagna are better growing areas for the different types of Lambrusco. So by drinking a Lambrusco di Sorbara vs a Lambrusco Grasparossa, you will likely be able to identify where in the region it came from.

Despite the differences, if there is one thing to know, it is that Lambrusco is a sparkling red wine produced in the Charmat method.

Why put bubbles in a red?

This is from Emilia-Romagna, where everything is ALL about the food. Think of the food that comes from this region. Savory, rich, often favoring a red wine. Parmigiano Reggiano, balsamic vinegar from Modena, Prosciutto di Parma, an incredible array of pasta, including Spaghetti Bolognese and an array of the best Ravioli you have had in your life. Incredible pork from chestnut fed pigs...I'll stop before you try and bite the screen!

We are excited to introduce the fantastic Lambrusco of Monte delle Vigne, a producer situated just outside of Parma, near the Taro river. Founded by Andrea Ferrari in 1983, who realized the unique potential of the area. Today, he is recognized as one of top producers near Parma, working from a single estate and farming organically.

"Selezione" is produced from Lambrusco Maestri. Unlike the big giants of Emilia, the grapes are hand picked, and then selected to go into this wine. The fementation takes about 20 days, and it is produced in the Charmat method.

Lovely notes of high-toned red fruits including dark cherry and cranberry. Frothy and extremely fresh on the palate, with soft tannins on the entry, and a bright juicy finish that keeps you coming back from more.

It isn't just traditional Italian food that pairs with Lambrusco, just this past week I enjoyed a bottle of this very wine with some spiced lamb ribs, a fantastic pairing. The fresh fruit and bubbles really gives your palate a flavorful cleanse, and keeps things upbeat throughout these big, bold dishes! Buy several bottles of this for your next BBQ, and watch it disappear in record time!
