Nadler Neuburger "Kräften" '15

Nadler Neuburger "Kräften" '15

Robert Nadler is a third generation grower/producer who took "the plunge" into the wine business, by quitting his office job and taking over from where his grandfather had left off. The winery is located in the Carnuntum region, well-known to the Viennese, who often take day trips to the region for the great wine and food, and idyllic setting. Carnuntum is well known for its red wine production, as the warm Pannonian climate, as well as the tempering effects of Lake Neusiedl, create a great growing climate. Weingut Nadler produces a wide array of wines, including the aforementioned reds. Yet, they caught our attention with this excellent example of the rare grape Neuburger. An indigenous varietal to Austria, a crossing of Roter Veltliner and Sylvaner, it is most significant in the Wachau and Thermenregion regions. Still, there isn't much Neuburger left in Austria as Grüner Veltliner has taken over as the most popular white grape variety. The Nadler Neuburger comes from a single parcel called Kräften." Like many of Nadler's white wines it was bright and crisp in its youth. Now with some bottle age on it, it has developed more complexity. Still plenty of citrus, flowers and spice notes, there is a beautiful underlying minerality to this white wine. Enjoy a glass as an apéritif, it can also be paired with seafood like grilled shrimp or steamed mussels.
