Paolo Scavino Vino Rosso '18

Paolo Scavino Vino Rosso '18

Paolo Scavino is one of the great producers of Barolo, and a producer we are also happy to call a friend. Because of the hard work and smarts of their father Enrico and grandfather, they are fortunate to own many amazing single vineyards scattered throughout the DOCG of Barolo.  Scavino is historical, making wine since 1921, and keeping it a family affair ever since, with sisters Elisa and Enrica currently running the winery.

Their great vineyards are not only sourced for Barolo bottlings, however.  The younger vines that are planted throughout their vineyards go into the "Vino Rosso" bottling, composed of indigenous red varietals to Piedmont: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto.  Together, they offer a fresh and aromatic wine that has classic Piedmontese charm.  Bright and expressive, full of red cherries and spice.

Whenever a Piedmont wine is mentioned, food must be as well.  This is a great aperitivo red that should be enjoyed with an array of dishes and ingredients - vegetarian fare, tuna, creamy cheeses like goat cheese and light, lean meats.

Now in its fourth generation under Elisa and Enrica Scavino, this is a special estate that owns 23 hectares of vines in 19 Barolo Cru vineyards. Aside from the great terroir, the family is dedicated to their vineyards and minimal intervention winemaking.
