Renato Ratti Barbera d'Asti "Battaglione" '16

Renato Ratti Barbera d'Asti "Battaglione" '16

Renato Ratti is celebrated as one of the true visionaries of Barolo, highlighting the La Morra village within the appellation.  Today, his son Pietro carries on his vision with innovation and respect to the history of Piedmont.  The Ratti family has always been passionate about both their wines as well as the integrity and protection of Barolo.  Renato was the President of the Barolo Consortium and eventually Asti's, too.  With contributions to mapping out and establishing DOCG regulations and boundaries of Alba and Asti and having published many books on the wines of Piedmont, Renato became one of the prime movers of the cultural and technical revolution that eventually brought the wines of Piedmont and Italy to international interest.

Ratti's wines are known for their shortened periods of fermentation and maceration, as well as less time in oak, creating a nuanced style full of elegance and a sleek structure.  After a year of aging, their Barbera d'Asti is fresh and full of fruit with an undertone of spice and herbs.  The wine is balanced between soft tannin and acidity, a perfect wine for any aperitif or meat course.
