Paolo Scavino Barbera d'Alba '18

Paolo Scavino Barbera d'Alba '18

Paolo Scavino is one of the great producers of Barolo, and a producer we are also happy to call a friend. Because of the hard work and smarts of their father Enrico and grandfather, they are fortunate to own many amazing single vineyards scattered throughout the DOCG of Barolo.  Scavino is historical, making wine since 1921, and keeping it a family affair ever since, with sisters Elisa and Enrica currently running the winery.   Their great vineyards are not only sourced for Barolo bottlings, however. It it quite common to find other varietals planted in the same soils of the same historical vineyard sites where Nebbiolo is found for their Barolo bottlings.

There is nothing better than an excellent Barbera.  As I've been saying for years, you will find a wine made from Barbera on a Piedmontese's dinner table much more often than a Barolo.  This is truly the epitome of what it means to be an "everyday wine."  With soft tannins, but boldness in fruit character, you will find Barbera to be one of the most versatile varietals out there.  Vinification and aging occur in stainless steel to purely deliver its character. Floral, elegant and expressive aromatics, high toned texture, harmonious and lively acidity.  You name it, chances are Barbera will pair wonderfully.  Dealer's choice!

Now in its fourth generation under Elisa and Enrica Scavino, this is a special estate that owns 23 hectares of vines in 19 Barolo Cru vineyards. Aside from the great terroir, the family is dedicated to their vineyards and minimal intervention winemaking.
