Paolo Scavino Dolcetto d'Alba '17

Founded in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo in Castiglione Falletto, Paolo Scavino winery has always lived up to certain traditions: passion for the land and the wines that can express them. Since he started working at his family's winery in 1951 (at age 10!), Enrico Scavino has carried on the tradition of intensely terroir driven wines. Now working with his two daughters, Elisa and Enrica (4th generation), their wines are well regarded for their purity and elegance.  Scavino shows time and time again that their attention to detail and precision is not only reserved for their Barolo, but all of their wines.  We can't get enough of this family and their wines.

The 2017 Dolcetto d'Alba lives up to these traditions and then some.  The Dolcetto vines are up to 50 years old, creating a deep purple color, with fresh aromatics of cherry, blueberry, spices and flowers. The structure has a lightness and brightness in it. Well defined by good tannins and harmonious acidity, this wine has a pleasant freshness and intriguing character.  Dolcetto is a softer, fresher and lighter varietal in comparison to a varietal such as Barbera. Dolcetto d’Alba is the everyday wine typically combined with the typical Piedmontese antipasti, a great starting point for any meal.
