Folk Machine "Parts & Labor" Red Table Wine '17

Kenny Likitprakong is a self-proclaimed hobo. But we are not referring to the modern day definition here, but the kind that was once an embodiment of a culture and time, with leaders like Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen, a few that greatly inspired Kenny. The non-conforming, traveling to seek experience, not afraid to get dirty kind of hobo what we are talking about here! Once he was ready to settle down, Kenny eventually applied his experience and poetic attributes of life towards winemaking. He isn't tied down to a single winery or vineyard, but instead houses a collection and variety of wines and sites that he sources from. Insert Folk Machine.

Folk Machine was originally created to be a home for Pinot Noir, but the idea transformed into much more, including a plethora of esoteric varietals, for California, as well. "Parts & Labor" is blend of 60% Redwood Valley Carignan, 25% Potter Valley Syrah, 11% Arroyo Seco Grenache, and 4% Redwood Valley Barbera. The varietals each come from their own respective vineyard sites, throughout the Mendocino region. Kenny ferments and ages the varietals separately, with natural yeasts and spontaneous fermentation, and then ages the wine in 75% stainless steel and 25% in old foudre. He then decides on the final blend before bottling.

This is definitely a gastronomic wine, full of bright red and blue fruit, pink peppercorn, herbs and hints of spice, with a beautifully moderate structure that keeps it versatile with food pairings. Enjoy with anything from roasted eggplant to spiced, grilled lamb or even a hearty stew.
