Loire Valley

Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Rosé '18

In just a short time, Thibaud Boudignon has emerged as one of the top producers in the Loire. There is nothing better than just when you think you've seen it all, great talent continues to emerge and captivate us from such a historic wine region, such as the Loire Valley.  His range of Chenin Blanc is truly incredible.

Today, however, we are not showcasing one of his Chenin Blanc bottlings.  Instead, we have the pleasure to share with you the only wine he produces that is not made from Chenin Blanc.   Thibaud does not produce red wine, focusing exclusively on white wine - with the exception of this rosé!

After gaining great experience and notoriety through winemaking in Gevrey-Chambertin and Savennières, Thibaud began to make wine in the early 2000s under his own name from a scant 3.5 ha in the heart of Anjou with a wine cellar in the outskirts, near Savennières. Knowing that the quality of his fruit was of most importance, he committed himself with great focus to the health of his vines, choosing to farm organically - and now biodynamically - by spending the majority of his time in the vineyards.

It's no wonder with such rectitude and preserverance that his name made its way into the ears of many of Loire's vignerons, to Parisian wine bars, and eventually globally.

This rosé is primarily Cabernet Franc, with about 20% Grolleau.  The wine is a direct press rosé, put into tank for only a very brief period of time of around four months.  The wine captures excellent salinity from its schist and volcanic-rich soils.  Thibaud makes his rosé with the intention and integrity in which he makes his white wines - to capture subtle texture that is preserved alongside minerality, nuanced in purity of fruit character, ultimately conveying a sense of place.

The wine is rich is color, but is more nimble on the palate than one would expect by merely observing its hue.  As previously mentioned, the wine is salinous with bright minerality, accompanied by vibrant notes of wild red berries.  The wine is utterly tantalizing on the palate, bringing you back sip after sip.  Not to mention is an absolute steal in value, for the quality and love that goes into this wine.  This is a rosé that everyone will enjoy. So much so, that we strongly suggest you have a second bottle chilling for back up!
