Douro Valley

Trans Douro Express Tinto "Baixo Corgo" '16

Baixo Corgo is the first sub-region of the Douro that you reach when traveling from the Atlantic Coast. As the Westernmost part of the Douro it experiences a mixture of Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. The vineyards of Baixo Corgo are predominantly schist soil, but the big difference between its neighbor Cima Corgo, is the dramatic difference in rainfall. Baixo Corgo has over three times the amount of rain as Cima Corgo.

The wine is made very simply, fermented in concrete with natural yeast and aged 8 months before bottling.

Having benefitted from being in bottle for two years, this wine is absolutely singing right now. The nose is incredible, with blue fruit notes, anise seed and cocoa. On the palate there is a lot going on: medium tannins in the mid palate, good freshness and energy, dark fruit and spice, it is truly complex.

A good match for roasted leg of lamb or braised beef stew.
